Due to the hot weather that has set in across the country, young green spaces planted in populated areas in the spring of this year, as well as in previous years, are at risk of drying out.
Without human help, most young trees and shrubs are doomed to die quickly.
In this regard, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection announces the campaign “Water the tree – save its life!”
The event will take place in all populated areas of Belarus. Every resident of the republic can make their contribution to the preservation of young green spaces.
Watering plants in the summer is essential to maintain optimal soil moisture levels, especially during periods of heat and high temperatures. This allows plants to continue photosynthesis, absorb nutrients, and maintain a green appearance. Regular watering also helps prevent plants from drying out and burning, which promotes healthy growth and development.
It is advisable to take water for irrigation from open sources so that its temperature is close to the soil temperature. Usually, watering is done in the morning or evening so that the water evaporates less. Trees are watered at the rate of 30-50 liters per 1 m2 of the trunk area, shrubs – 20 liters per 1 m2, but in dry times, water will be useful for trees in any quantity. First, it is necessary to water the top layer of soil to moisten it, and then water more intensively.
In dry and hot weather, it is recommended to water the trees every week; if the trees have been planted recently, they require more frequent watering.
Don’t remain indifferent, water the trees, flowers, bushes near your home, work, school, in parks, alleys and squares!
If you have any additional questions or need assistance in carrying out activities to water green spaces in populated areas, you can contact the territorial body of the Ministry of Natural Resources at your place of residence (the inspection of natural resources and environmental protection).
