
During the talks, the results of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which was held from November 30 to December 13, 2023 in Dubai, UAE, were discussed. The participants in the talks agreed that the results of COP28 should become the basis for developing cooperation in the environmental and climate spheres.
Andrei Khudyk highly appreciated the level of organization and holding of the event by the state chairing COP28, and also noted the level of its participants. Thus, the Belarusian delegation was headed by the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, whose speech from such an important platform demonstrated the active position of our country in the international climate process.
In general, the parties noted the high level of relations existing between the two countries in all areas. It was especially emphasized that due to the warm and trusting relations that have developed between the heads of state, it has become possible to set ambitious plans and tasks for the governments of both countries to deepen and expand cooperation in all areas.
The interlocutors also agreed to exchange proposals on current areas of cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2020. In particular, according to the Ambassador, desertification, afforestation and reforestation are promising topics.
At the meeting, the diplomat informed the head of the Belarusian environmental protection agency about the appointment of a new Minister for Climate Change and Environment of the UAE. In order to deepen cooperation, the Belarusian side will soon send an invitation to Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi to visit the Republic of Belarus.
