The level of progress of our country in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals remains quite high and amounts to almost 80 percent. The SDGs are implemented in the National Strategy for Sustainable Development until 2035, and are also correlated with government programs, ensuring a high level of monitoring and evaluation of the achievement of the SDGs.
- the effectiveness of the functioning of the national architecture for managing the process of achieving the SDGs;
- assessment of progress in achieving the SDGs in the Republic of Belarus;
- preparation of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Belarus for the period up to 2040, taking into account the 2030 Agenda and government programs for a new five–year cycle;
- localization of SDGs;
- involving youth and the general public in the process of achieving the SDGs;
- interaction with business and international partners in the field of achieving the SDGs.
During the event, representatives of government bodies, parliament, public associations, business and academic circles, and international organizations exchange views on the issues under consideration, as well as make proposals for further work in the field of SDGs and necessary measures to improve it.
“In the Republic of Belarus, environmental protection is one of the key areas of state policy and is complex, affecting all natural components, ecosystems, as well as the economy, health, science, education and other spheres of state and human activity,” he stressed. “These issues are under the close attention of our President and Government.”
Viktor Galanov also noted that solving a set of tasks involving the conservation of surface water bodies, improving atmospheric air quality, preserving and restoring natural ecosystems and biological diversity, and maximizing the use of waste contribute to achieving the environmental SDGs.
The panel discussion focuses on the topic of closed-loop economics (circular economy) as a driver of inclusive sustainable growth, green transition to inclusive and sustainable growth, elimination of hazardous waste stocks, including persistent organic pollutants, water resources as an element of the concept of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Belarus for the period up to 2040 (NSD-2040), SDG youth ambassadors as guides of the green transition among young people.
During the Forum, an award ceremony was held – for a significant contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, thanks were announced to Tatyana Kononchuk, Head of the Main Department of Environmental Policy, International Cooperation and Science of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Central Research Institute for Integrated Water Resources Management.
