The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection invites residents and organizations of Belarus to take an active part in the largest international environmental action – “Earth Hour 2024”.
The event will take place on March 30, traditionally on the last Saturday of the first month of spring. On this day, in hundreds of cities around the world, at 20:30 local time, the windows of houses and public buildings will go out for an hour, and the illumination of landmarks will disappear.
Earth Hour was first held in the Australian city of Sydney on March 31, 2007. A year later, the event was supported by 35 countries and over 400 cities. The Republic of Belarus joined the event in 2009.
Earth Hour is, first and foremost, a symbolic action to draw attention to the consequences of climate change and the need for a responsible attitude towards the nature and resources of our planet.
After almost two decades of existence, the event annually involves over 2 billion ordinary citizens and thousands of businesses from 190 countries, where the lights of more than 18 thousand architectural monuments go out. Since this is a completely voluntary event, people themselves decide how many and which electrical appliances they will turn off, and city authorities initiate the switching off of the lights of city objects.
Of course, an hour-long power outage in itself cannot significantly improve the environmental situation on Earth. But energy saving is not the main goal of the action – what is important is the unity that people show in the face of environmental problems, the willingness of everyone to make their contribution to the well-being of the planet. Today, Earth Hour is the most massive public action in the history of mankind.
The Ministry of Natural Resources invites everyone to join the campaign:
On March 30 at 8:30 p.m., let’s turn off the lights together for an hour!
