The first facility in Belarus for the production of alternative fuel – RDF fuel

Important news in the field of ecology and waste management in Belarus: the first facility for the production of RDF fuel from municipal solid waste has been commissioned in the Grodno region!
The construction and testing of an innovative facility that will allow for the efficient processing of municipal solid waste (MSW) into RDF fuel (Refuse Derived Fuel) has been completed on the territory of the Grodno Plant for the Utilization and Mechanical Sorting of Waste. This is the first such facility in the Republic of Belarus, and its launch marked an important step in the development of alternative energy sources.
RDF fuel is an alternative fuel produced from waste such as paper, cardboard, textiles and plastic. It is effectively used in industry, primarily in cement plants, as a replacement for traditional fuels (e.g. coal or natural gas). The use of RDF fuel allows not only to reduce energy costs, but also to minimize the negative impact on the environment, since a significant part of the waste is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
The industrial testing of the new facility was successful, and the first batch of RDF fuel was sent to Krasnoselskstroymaterialy OJSC, one of the largest enterprises in the cement industry of Belarus. Such cooperation is an important stage in the integration of alternative fuels into the country’s industry.
The use of RDF fuel at such plants allows for a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, which is especially important in the context of the global fight against climate change and the transition to sustainable development. It also helps reduce the volume of waste disposal at landfills, which helps solve the problem of the shortage of space for storing MSW. The development of such projects in the country will also create additional jobs and attract investment in the eco-technologies sector.
