Minister Sergei Maslyak held talks in Moscow with Deputy Director General for Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Solutions of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Andrei Nikipelov. During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of a unified hazardous waste management system in Russia, prospects for deepening cooperation in the design and construction of radioactive waste disposal facilities in the Republic of Belarus. Members of the Belarusian delegation also familiarized themselves with the experience of the State Corporation Rosatom in the field of eliminating accumulated environmental damage.
During the negotiations, special attention was paid to the progress of the development of a joint project aimed at developing a comprehensive solution for protecting the environment from contamination by unsuitable pesticides, including the creation of a technology for neutralization and a pilot plant with testing during the liquidation of the Gorodok burial site. The project activities are planned to be implemented within the framework of the Union State.
The Head of the Belarusian environmental protection agency suggested that the Rosatom State Corporation consider the possibility of cooperation with the Polesie State Radiation and Ecological Reserve. Sergei Maslyak outlined promising areas of cooperation: exchange of experience and best practices in the field of monitoring environmental radioactivity and radioecological research in areas affected by the Chernobyl accident, the use of remote sensing, technologies, artificial intelligence in the field of preventing and eliminating man-made emergencies, etc.
The Belarusian delegation also visited the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “United Ecological, Technological and Scientific Research Center for Radioactive Waste Neutralization and Environmental Protection” (FSUE “RADON”), which is one of the technological leaders in the field of radioactive waste management.
