Today, the head of the Belarusian environmental protection agency, Sergei Maslyak, met with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Mukhtar Babayev.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of one of the largest international events of this year – the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is currently being held under the chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Baku.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed in detail the prospects for developing bilateral cooperation on the climate agenda, mutually recognizing the high potential and relevance of this area.
At the end of the meeting, the Ministers signed a Work Program for the implementation of the interdepartmental Agreement on cooperation in the field of environmental protection, concluded in 2010.
The program is designed for 2025-2026 and covers such areas as mitigating the effects of climate change, combating illegal international trade, combating invasive species of animals and plants, compiling geological maps, handling industrial waste (including hazardous waste), limiting the production and use of plastic, and more.
Sergey Maslyak also invited his Azerbaijani colleague to take part in the EcologyExpo exhibition, which will take place in 2025.
