Every year on October 6, World Habitat Day is celebrated – an international holiday designed to draw attention to the importance of protecting natural ecosystems and their inhabitants. Established in 1979, it reminds us that preserving biodiversity and the health of the planet depends on our active participation.
Belarus, with its rich natural heritage, is actively involved in protecting its ecosystems. The country is famous for its forests, swamps and water bodies, which are home to many rare and endangered species of animals and plants. In recent years, the government of the Republic of Belarus has been implementing programs to protect natural areas, including the creation of reserves and national parks.
One of the most famous reserves is Belovezhskaya Pushcha, a unique natural complex listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to many rare species of animals and plants, including the bison, a symbol of Belarusian nature. Unfortunately, like other parts of the world, Belovezhskaya Pushcha is subject to threats such as deforestation and climate change. Therefore, the protection of habitats is becoming especially important for our country. Environmentalists and activists are actively working on projects to restore ecosystems and preserve biodiversity, drawing public attention to the importance of these efforts.
Join us in celebrating World Habitat Day and take a step towards preserving nature for future generations!
