Mobility Week in Minsk is held from September 16 to 22 and reminds us of the importance of reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere, most of which come from cars. This week’s events focus on the negative impact of cars on the environment and encourage people to use alternative modes of transportation.
- From September 11 to 22, the Stolitsa shopping center is hosting the exhibition “History of Electric Transport,” where you can learn about the first trams and trolleybuses in the capital, the construction of the Minsk metro and the emergence of electric transport, as well as the creation of the first electric car and personal mobility devices.
- On September 21, the State Educational Institution “Gymnasium No. 19 of Minsk” will host the 7th cycling festival “In Motion”, and the Educational Institution “Minsk State Tourism and Ecological Center for Children and Youth” will organize a “Car-Free Day” for students at the “Pioneer” cinema, where a film lecture will be held.
- State Enterprise Minsktrans will hold a quest for schoolchildren in the city passenger transport museum and a thematic excursion dedicated to its own products (roller skis and components) at the Energy Service branch.
- The Belarusian Green Cross is organizing a tour of the exhibition of children's works "On My Own Land" and a lesson on ecological drawing using "Druya" postcards for families with children in partnership with the parish of the Peter and Paul Cathedral in Minsk.
- On September 20, the traditional “Bike to Work!” campaign will take place, during which cyclists heading to work on bicycles and other personal mobility devices will be given free fruit.
- The final stage of the mobility week in Minsk will be the Car-Free Day, which is celebrated around the world on September 22. On this day, a variety of entertainment events are planned in the Hugo Chavez Park from 13:00 to 20:00, including a concert and entertainment program.
Visitors will be able to see an exhibition of electric transport, undergo training in driving an electric scooter, ride a unicycle and purchase eco-goods and eco-products. The initiatives “Green Schools”, “Green Classes of the Belarusian Capital”, “Ecodar” and others will also present their projects. Visitors will be able to visit a petting zoo, learn figure riding on a bicycle, participate in quizzes, quests and competitions, as well as do face painting.
The final event at 20:00 will be a race on environmentally friendly transport with festive lighting along the route Kazimirovskaya Street – Kamennogorskaya Street – Lyutsinskaya Street – Kolesnikova Street.
In addition, on September 22, the capital will offer a discount on the rental of rank bicycles and electric scooters from the companies “Ileven” and “Vush”.
This year, according to the decision of the Minsk City Council of Deputies, in connection with the “Car-Free Day” campaign on September 22, the State Enterprise “Minsktrans” and the State Enterprise “Minsk Metro” will not charge a fee for travel on public transport and in the metro if the passenger has a driver’s license and a vehicle registration certificate.
