In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 157 dated 03/26/1998, the state holiday “Day of the State Coat of Arms and the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus” is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May. This year it falls on May 12th.
In the system of attributes, state symbols occupy one of the most important places, they are the embodiment of the national idea of the Belarusian state.
In accordance with article 19 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the symbols of our country as a sovereign State are the National Flag, the National Emblem and the National Anthem.
The presence of state symbols is a necessary feature of a modern state. State symbols are, first of all, signs of the spiritual unity of the people, moral values that unite all citizens. In the system of attributes, state symbols occupy one of the most important places, they are the embodiment of the national idea of the state. National symbols are conventional signs, images and objects expressing the peculiarities of national values, certain aspects of the life of the people and the state.
The coat of arms, flag and anthem of the state are the main symbols of independence, conveying the historical and cultural heritage of our people, emphasizing the national spirit and dignity of Belarusian citizens. They reflect certain aspects of the nation and the state, giving an idea of the historical path of the country and its national values. The coat of arms and the flag of the Republic of Belarus with the help of simple and understandable means, the character of the people, its spiritual potential. They are endowed with bright features and are easily recognizable among all state symbols of the world community.
The state symbols – the coat of arms and the flag of Belarus – represent the history and future of the Belarusian state, the embodiment of the idea of national unity, the most important attributes of the sovereignty and independence of the Fatherland.
