In 2024, the International Day of Biological Diversity is held under the slogan “Become part of the plan”.
Biological diversity is the diversity of living organisms on Earth.
Biological diversity in Belarus is of great importance, which is determined by the geographical location of our country, the presence of various unique ecosystems in which the most valuable genetic fund is preserved.
Biodiversity has important ecological, economic and cultural significance, as it ensures the sustainability of ecosystems and provides humans with many useful resources.
Conservation of biodiversity is important for the production of products from forests, fish and agricultural products. To preserve soil fertility and increase yields, the genetic diversity of cultivated plants is necessary. Pollinating animals play a key role in the process of pollination of plants, ensuring the full development of their fruits. Taking care of biodiversity has a direct impact on human well-being, including the creation of medicines, recreation and tourism development. Realizing this, we are obliged to respect, protect and restore our national heritage of the natural world.
Pollution of the natural environment today, its pollution from human products, and increased competition from invasive species, lead to a decrease and disappearance of species in wildlife, washing out ecosystems.
To stop this process, the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity at the 15th Conference of the Parties adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework for the Conservation of Biodiversity.
“Become part of the plan”, this motto calls on each of us to make every possible effort to implement the provisions of the Kunming-Montreal Program.
The objectives of the biodiversity conservation program include:
- Protection and recovery;
- Prosperity in harmony with nature;
- Fair distribution of benefits;
- Investments and cooperation.
Everyone can be a part of the plan!
