Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Khudyk and Minister of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China Huang Runqiu signed a Roadmap for the development of cooperation for the period 2024-2026.
This document was developed by the Belarusian and Chinese sides in development of the agreements reached during the meeting of the heads of environmental agencies of the two states, which took place on September 21, 2023, as part of the visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Natural Resources to China.
The Roadmap provides for a number of specific cooperation activities in such important areas as:
- reducing the negative anthropogenic impact on the environment in order to ensure favorable living conditions for the population, improving the state of the natural environment, as well as mitigating the effects of climate change and adapting to it in the interests of sustainable, environmentally oriented socio-economic development;
- air quality management;
- climate change, including adaptation and mitigation of its consequences;
- integrated waste management;
- conservation and restoration of biodiversity;
- promotion of smart cities and environmentally friendly transport;
- increasing the capacity of environmental institutions;
- ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and liability for its violation.
The signed document is an integral part of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation concluded between the two departments earlier in July 2023, and translates it into “practical form.”
In order to implement the Roadmap, the Belarusian and Chinese sides may create working groups, hold meetings, conferences, organize visits and other events.
The signed document will become a valuable contribution to the treasury of bilateral relations between Belarus and China and will serve to further deepen the all-round and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
