Today, an online meeting was held between the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Khudyk and the Director of the China Geological Survey Li Jinfa. The event was held at the Republican Center for State Environmental Expertise, Training, Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
In addition to the management and employees of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the National Bank, the Production Association “Belorusneft”, the National Academy of Sciences, the National Agency for Investment and Privatization.
Together with the head of the Chinese Geological Survey, the meeting was attended by the management and representatives of several departments, the Center for the Study of Oil and Gas Resources and the Xi’an Center of Geological Survey of the PRC.
Opening the event, the head of the Belarusian environmental protection agency sincerely thanked the Chinese side for its willingness to support the Republic of Belarus in the development of the geological industry: “The exchange of experience, technology and joint improvement of the qualifications of our geologists will be very important for both countries.”
Andrei Khudyk expressed confidence that this meeting will contribute to the deepening of Belarusian-Chinese cooperation in the field of rational use of natural resources, and is also a confirmation of the true sincere friendship between both the countries and the Heads of Belarus and China.
During the negotiations, the Minister emphasized that the experience of the Chinese Geological Survey is of great interest to the Belarusian side, and invited the Director of the Chinese Geological Survey with a team of investors to visit the Republic of Belarus, communicate with the country’s leading geologists and see with their own eyes the opportunities for the effective development of bilateral cooperation between Belarus and China.
“We know China as a high-tech country with a rich history of development of the geological industry. For our part, we are also ready to share our experience,” he said. “The Republic of Belarus has significant potential for various minerals. Given the geographical location of the Republic of Belarus, it is profitable to come to us not only for their exploration and production, but also for processing and subsequent export to the huge markets of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, the EU and others.”
- Chinese experience and technologies in hydrocarbon exploration, prospecting and production;
- Oil and gas potential of the Republic of Belarus, problems and prospects for development of the industry;
- Investment climate of the Republic of Belarus;
- Presentation of a number of Belarusian investment projects, including the extraction and production of basalt products;
- Legislative regulation of subsoil use in our country;
- Prospects for the creation of a joint geological center in Belarus.
“We have been actively cooperating with our Chinese colleagues for some time now, and today we understand that China is a highly developed country, especially in matters of geological exploration, mining, processing and intensification of use. In this regard, we asked our partners to share their experience in hydrocarbon geological exploration. I would like to note that we received very interesting information that still needs to be studied,” Andrei Khudyk said about the results of the meeting.
According to him, an agreement was also reached during the negotiations on the exchange of delegations and training of Belarusian personnel.
“I am convinced that today’s proposals and specific consistent steps that we have managed to agree on will allow us to fulfill the Head of State’s order to intensify the mineral resource base in Belarus,” said the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The head of the department added that several Belarusian investment projects were presented at the meeting, including the Novodvorskoye deposit, where basalts and tuffs will be mined.
“Our Chinese colleagues are already looking for potential investors for us in China. There are several large global companies that have expressed a desire to come to Belarus and study this investment project on site. We are confident that step by step we will come to a good result. Of course, such serious projects are not created quickly,” Andrei Khudyk summed up.
The Minister also shared plans to create a joint Belarusian-Chinese geological center in Belarus. “Back in September last year, we agreed to create a joint geological center “Belarus-China”. Today, our Chinese colleagues confirmed their intention to us. The chief geologist of China promised to come to Belarus with a team in the near future and specifically resolve this issue. China has such experience. We hope that the proposals that were voiced today by colleagues on joint projects in the SCO countries’ programs are also possible for our country in the near future,” the head of the Belarusian environmental agency said.
