Sergey Maslyak took part in a high-level event on “Land degradation and climate change, losses, damages and opportunities for strengthening cooperation between the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus and regions with arid climate“, which took place today on the sidelines of COP29 at the initiative of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During his speech at the plenary session, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection informed the participants about the measures taken by our country to prevent land degradation, as well as to adapt agriculture to climate change.
The event was also attended by UNECE Executive Secretary Tatyana Molchan, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Nysanbayev, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification Andrea Meza Murillo and others.
The head of the Belarusian environmental protection agency at the round table “Towards the creation of a global platform of green climate technologies based on the Green Bridge Partnership Program, organized by the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the sidelines of COP29, informed the delegates about the achievements of the Republic of Belarus in the field of the “green” economy, as well as the adoption this year of the National Strategy for the Development of a Closed-Cycle Economy (Circular Economy) for the period up to 2035.
In his speech, Sergey Maslyak emphasized the importance of introducing new commercially attractive technologies aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and adapting to them, as well as the development of scientific and design research in this area.
“Of course, to solve the problem of global climate change, efforts are needed from all stakeholders within the country, as well as cooperation between states in the international arena,” the Minister noted.
Also, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the Republic of Belarus to COP29 Sergei Maslyak held a number of short discussions with his colleagues from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Thus, with the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, Meder Mashiev, we noted a mutual interest in developing interdepartmental cooperation and considering the possibility of concluding a corresponding agreement.
