Alexander Lukashenko: The Constitution of Belarus has become our guideline, a truly national state-forming document

Today, Head of State Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus.
Among the participants of the large-scale event in the Palace of Independence are judges of the Constitutional Court, people who contributed to the formation of sovereign Belarus, representatives of political parties and public organizations, parliamentarians, and scientists.
The meeting is timed to coincide with a significant date – on this day 30 years ago, a new stage in the history of modern Belarus, sovereign and politically independent, began, when the fundamental legal foundations for the development of the state and society were laid.
“Think about it: 30 years ago. In the history of the world, of humanity, it is just a moment. But for us, those who have been building our country all these years, it is a whole life. A difficult, contradictory, sometimes on the edge of possibilities, but certainly interesting and, most importantly, a life completely devoted to our beloved country. And on this path, the Constitution of Belarus has become our guide, a truly national state-forming document, which was especially evident during the referendums,” Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting. “We have something to remember, something to say to those who have been growing up, maturing, and today are standing next to us, sharing responsibility for the future of Belarus.”
Among the participants of the meeting are representatives of different generations and different spheres of activity. Each of them at different times directly or indirectly participated in the development and improvement of the first and only Constitution of sovereign Belarus, the implementation of its provisions in all areas of state and public life. “There are thousands and thousands of people behind us, the same active participants in the process,” said the Head of State.
The President noted that along with the Basic Law, a generation of modern Belarusians entered the history of the formation of national statehood. But at the same time, this most important document was not born on barren, empty soil.
“I take great care of continuity and have always said that without traditions there is no nation, no state. This is a question of the continuity of the people’s history and the preservation of the cultural code,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized. “This is a question of our sacred connection with previous generations and those who will come after us.”
Belarus may be a young state, but Belarusians are an absolutely mature nation. It is impossible to dispute this status. As is the fact that our Constitution embodies the achievements of many eras,” the President stated.
On the one hand, this document is practically the same age as sovereign Belarus. On the other hand, it is the result of centuries of experience in the development of legal traditions and state building on Belarusian soil. Therefore, the 30th anniversary of the Basic Law gives an opportunity to analyze the entire path taken, especially now, when humanity is on the threshold of a global change of eras, as it was a third of a century ago, the Head of State noted.
