A visiting meeting of the OKES under the territorial body of the Ministry of Natural Resources was held in the Volkovysk district

Today, in the urban settlement of Krasnoselsky, Volkovysk district, Grodno region, on the basis of the enterprise OJSC “Krasnoselskstroymaterialy”, a visiting meeting of the public coordinating environmental council under the Grodno regional committee of natural resources and environmental protection (OKES) was held.

The meeting was held in an expanded format, with participants including employees of the central office of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, representatives of local authorities, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Republican Unitary Enterprise “BelNITS “Ecology”, public ecologists of the committee, interested employees of enterprises and organizations of the Grodno region, representatives of the magazine “Rodnaya Pryroda” and other mass media.
Before the plenary part of the event, the participants visited the production facility of Krasnoselskstroymaterialy OJSC, where they learned about the technological process at the enterprise, as well as the successful experience of introducing greening principles into it.

During the meeting of the OKES, a wide range of issues was considered, concerning the main national interests in the environmental sphere within the framework of the draft of the new Concept of National Security of the country, production accounting of greenhouse gas emissions as a tool for sustainable development in the industrial sector, innovations in the legislation on waste management, approaches to their energy use and the impact of waste on the climate, closed-loop economy as a basis for achieving sustainable low-carbon development of Belarus, tasks and possible ways of transition to its principles in the management of MSW, experience in ensuring resource efficiency of production and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, recommendations for business entities on access to international carbon markets for offset climate projects, as well as experience and practice of public participation in making environmentally significant decisions.

The event was held with the support of the GEF/UNDP international technical assistance project “Building Capacity for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading and Strengthening the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification System in the Republic of Belarus”, the national partner of which is the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
