On November 1, 2024, in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, a visiting meeting of the public coordinating environmental council of the Brest Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection was held with the support of the United Nations Development Program Office in the Republic of Belarus with the participation of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Sergei Maslyak.
The Public Environmental Coordination Council was created in 2001 to ensure interaction with public associations and other environmental organizations, to develop coordinated decisions on issues of nature management, environmental education, upbringing and enlightenment (in 2003-2004, such councils were created in the regions).
During the meeting, several important issues were considered:
- Development of the climate agenda in the Republic of Belarus (speaker - Olga Chabrovskaya, project coordinator of the UN Development Program in the Republic of Belarus),
- On the development of the draft Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Brest Region for the period up to 2040 (speaker - Maxim Bogdasarov, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, vice-rector for research at the A.S. Pushkin Brest State University),
- Experience of restoration of wetlands in the Republic of Belarus taking into account climate conservation issues (speaker - Mikhail Maksimenkov, senior researcher at the State Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Bioresources, UNDP expert),
- Assessment of the impact of climate change on long-term processes in the ecosystems of Belovezhskaya Pushcha and the work being carried out to reduce the negative consequences of climate change (speaker - Dmitry Bernatsky, head of the scientific department of the State Institution of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha").
